Ethan had always been the quiet one at school. He was a regular guy, focused on his studies, keeping his head down, and mostly hanging out with his small circle of friends. He never thought much about love or crushes—those were just things his friends talked about, not him. Until one warm autumn afternoon changed everything.
It was a Saturday, and Ethan was enjoying a peaceful walk in the park near his house. The park was his escape, a place where he could think, clear his mind, or even just kick a ball around when he wanted to feel like a kid again. As he approached his favorite bench by the fountain, something—or rather someone—caught his eye.
Sitting on a swing not too far from him was a girl, her brown hair flowing gently with the breeze, her face focused as she gently rocked back and forth. She seemed lost in her own world, the late afternoon sun casting a warm glow around her. There was something about her that held Ethan's attention. He’d seen pretty girls before, but this was different. His heart raced, and suddenly, that familiar park felt new and exciting, like something was about to change.
Over the next few days, Ethan found himself thinking about her constantly. Who was she? He’d never seen her before, at least not at school. But fate, as it turned out, had other plans.
On Monday morning, walking through the crowded hallways of his high school, Ethan's heart nearly stopped when he saw her again—this time standing by the lockers, talking to a group of friends. She went to his school! He couldn't believe it. Suddenly, she wasn’t just a fleeting moment from his weekend; she was part of his everyday life.
Shy by nature, Ethan didn’t dare approach her, but he found himself noticing little things: the books she carried, the classes she took, the way she laughed with her friends. His minor crush quickly grew into something more. It felt like a heavy secret he carried, and he had no idea what to do with it.
He tried to find ways to get her attention—dropping a pen nearby as she walked past, holding the door a little longer when she was behind him in the hall. Each time, she glanced at him, sometimes smiling politely, sometimes just walking past. But it wasn’t enough.
One afternoon, after school, Ethan found himself back at the park. To his surprise, she was there again, sitting on the same swing. His heart pounded. This was his chance. He couldn’t let it slip away. Mustering every ounce of courage, he walked over, trying to keep his nerves from showing.
"Hey, I’ve seen you around," he said, his voice barely steady. "Do you... come here often?"
She looked up, her eyes meeting his. For a moment, time seemed to freeze. Then, she smiled—a soft, warm smile that made his heart leap. "Yeah, it’s kind of my favorite spot."
They talked for a few minutes, the conversation light but meaningful. Ethan felt his confidence growing with each word exchanged. Maybe, just maybe, he had a chance. As they stood to leave, she surprised him by asking, "Want to walk with me?"
It was a simple question, but to Ethan, it was everything. They walked side by side, chatting about school, music, and random things, and for that brief moment, Ethan felt like the luckiest guy in the world. She had given him a chance—a chance to be more than just a face in the crowd.
But as they reached the edge of the park, she hesitated, her smile fading slightly. "There’s something you should know," she said, her voice suddenly serious.
Ethan's heart skipped a beat. What could it be? What was she about to tell him?
Was there something she was hiding, or was this the beginning of something real?
