Uncovering The Nadal’s Story

This story is a sequel of the story Whispers In The Dark  so read that story first if you haven't read that. Now enjoy the part 2 of it :)

Alex was determined to find Nadal’s killers, yet the forensic report was frustratingly vague—it didn’t confirm whether Nadal’s death was suicide or murder. But as the investigation deepened, clues began to surface, each one casting more doubt. It soon became undeniable: Nadal’s death was a murder.

Now, the only question was, who could have done it?

As Alex and Nia dug deeper, another name surfaced: Marshall. It was a name they hadn’t considered, but it seemed to follow them at every turn, woven into the threads of the investigation.

The name Marshall haunted Alex, refusing to leave his mind. He didn’t know much about him—just that Marshall had once been close to Liam and was known for keeping to himself, rarely getting involved in their circle’s activities. But with Nadal’s death confirmed as murder, Alex couldn’t ignore this new lead.

He and Nia began asking around, piecing together whatever they could about Marshall. They discovered he worked odd jobs, never staying in one place for long. Whispers trailed behind him, stories about his involvement in the same underground dealings that had once entangled Liam and Nadal. The few people who knew him spoke cautiously, as if even mentioning his name could summon trouble.

Late one evening, after hours of combing through old contacts, Alex found himself standing outside a dimly lit bar on the edge of town. This was where Marshall was last seen. The bar’s neon sign flickered as he glanced at Nia, who nodded encouragingly.

Inside, the atmosphere was thick with smoke and the hum of murmured conversations. Alex’s eyes scanned the room, finally landing on a figure at the far corner—a tall, lean man with dark eyes that seemed to take in everything. It had to be Marshall.

As they approached, Marshall looked up, his gaze shifting from Alex to Nia, then back to Alex. He gave a half-smile, but there was no warmth in it, only a quiet wariness.

"Can I help you?" Marshall asked, his voice low and measured.

Alex kept his composure. "We need to talk about Nadal."

Marshall’s expression hardened. For a moment, he said nothing, studying them both. Then he leaned back, folding his arms. "What’s there to say? He’s gone, isn’t he?"

"Don’t play games," Alex replied, his voice edged with frustration. "We know he didn’t die by accident. He found something—something dangerous. And now I want to know who was involved."

Marshall’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t deny it. Instead, he looked around, as if deciding how much he could reveal. "Nadal... he was onto something big. Bigger than any of us realized. He thought he could handle it alone." Marshall’s gaze shifted, a flicker of something almost like regret crossing his face. "But he didn’t know what he was up against."

Nia stepped forward. "Who was he up against?"

Marshall’s jaw tightened. "Let’s just say there are people who don’t like their secrets being exposed. Powerful people. I warned Nadal to walk away, but he wouldn’t listen. He thought he was doing the right thing."

Alex felt a chill settle over him. "And you? Were you involved in any of it?"

Marshall held his gaze, unblinking. "I was around, yes. But Nadal was different. He wanted to get out clean, to make things right. That’s what got him killed."

Before Alex could ask anything more, Marshall stood up, his expression turning cold and unreadable. "This conversation never happened. And if you know what’s good for you, you’ll stop digging."

With that, he walked out, leaving Alex and Nia staring after him. Alex’s mind was racing, but he knew one thing for sure—they were closer to the truth. But they were also in more danger than ever.
